Kyoto Morning to UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Half day visit to popular
World Heritage Sites in Kyoto. A designated UNESCO World Heritage
Site, Kamigamo Shrine, covering an area of 664,000 square meters,
includes 34 shrine buildings all of which are sesignated as important
national cultural assets. Golden Pavilion is Kyoto's most famous
and photographed temple with the authentic and exquisite Japanese-style
garden. Ryuanji Temple was established in 1450 by Hosokawa Katsumoto.
Its dry landscape garden, consisting of 15 large and small rocks
on a bed of white sand spread out over an east-west rectangular
plot, is so famous.

Another course to visit
World Heritages in the afternoon. Nijo castle was built in 1603.
The entire compound is surrounded by a tall stone embankment
and moat. A corridor in the main building was ingeneously designed
to make a sound like a Japanese nightingale when walk on. The
main hall of Kiyomizu Temple is famous for its spacious outdoor,
cliff-like balcony, supported on intricate wooden structure of
pillars. The large temple area offers outstanding views of the
city. Daigoji was built in 874 and is the oldest wooden building
in Kyoto Prefecture. The temple is in the famous area for cherry
blossom viewing.

Romantic Train and Rapid River Boating
The tourist train "Torroko"offers
visitors an excellent chance to appreciate the stunning natural
scenery along the Hozugawa River gorge, renowned for its cherry
blossoms, and the glowing green of its new leaves. The 16-km,
2-hour journey down the river through the mountains from Kameok
a to Kyoto's scenic Arashiyama is a thrill not to be missed.
Developed by Suminokura Ryoi in 1606 as an industrial waterway
for carrying such products as lumber and fuel from the Tamba
region to Kyoto, today this river is a well-known tourist attraction
in Japan. The beauty of this river valley is to behold with the
cherry blossoms in the spring.

H-4 Kyoto Night
Kodaiji Temple was constructed
by Nene in 1606, the widow of Toyotomi
Hideyoshi, to console her husband's spirit. The garden is a designated
national historic and famous scenic place. Many artworks, once
belonged to Hideyoshi and Nene, are on display. The temple has
a popular garden light-up in spring. Yasaka Shrine is an extremely
popular destination to pray for the prevention of diseases and
illness. Maruyama Park is located right behind Yasaka Shrine.
It is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, known especially
for its giant willow-like cherry tree, located at the center
of the park. Gion Corner offers an introduction to various traditional
Japanese arts and entertainment, for example, Kyomachi dance
performed by Maiko or Geisha.

Nara is the ancient capital of Japan till the
end of the 8th century. In Todaiji Temple, you can see the Great
Buddha (14.98m tall) in the world's largest wooden building.
At Deer Park, more than 1,000 tame deer roam freely in the verdant
1,250 acres peaceful park. If you wish to feed the deer, they
will gladly eat from your hand. The most famous and beautiful
Shinto shrine in Nara is Kasuga Shrine (built in 768). It features
some 3,000 antique stone and bronze lanterns.

This course include visit
Horyuji Temple, which is conveying images of Japan as it existed
more than 1,300 years ago, during the Asuka Period (A.D. mid
6th - beginning of 8th century). This temple was founded by Prince
Shotoku, who is attributed with having introduced Buddhism to
Japan. Its main hall, five storied pagoda and central gate, all
located in the temple's Saiin Garan(Western Precinct) and dating
from the 7th century, are the world's oldest surviving wooden
structures. The main attraction of the Horyuji's Toin Garan (Eastern
Precinct) is the Yumedono, the Hall of Visions. In 1993, Horyuji
was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Fuji-Hakone One Night
Tour to Tokyo
Mt. Fuji, rising above the
clouds, is symbol of Japan and has provided a spiritual basis
for Japanese. This 12,380ft high dormant volcano is world renowned
for its symmetry and serenity. Hakone is located in the Fuji
Hakone Izu National Park about 80km west of Tokyo and attracts
about 20 million tourists a year. Lake Ashi (Japanese: Ashinoko)
was formed in the caldera of Mt. Hakone after the volcano's last
eruption 3000 years ago. Today, the lake with Mt. Fuji in the
background is the symbol of Hakone. The best views of the lake
in combination with Mt. Fuji can be enjoyed from Moto-Hakone,
from the Hakone Detached Palace Garden and from the sightseeing
boats cruising the lake.

KYOTO
Golden
Pavilion (Kinkakuji)
Kinkakuji is Kyoto's
most famous and photographed temple garden. The three-story Chinese
Zen-influenced Golden Pavilion has delicately curving roofs,
and the walls and eaves are covered with fine gold leaf. On a
clear day the villa is reflected in the mirror pond which lies
in front of the building. The present structure, dating from
1955, is a copy of the original built in 1397 by shogun Ashikaga
Yoshimitsu. |

"Heian-Jingu"
Shrine
Kyoto's most imposing
shrine, "Heian-Jingu" was built in 1884 to mark the
1,100th anniversary of the city. It is dedicated to the first
and last Emperors to reside in the old capital. The bright orange
and green main hall is a scaled down replica of the Heian Period
Imperial Palace. There is the exquisitely landscaped strolling
garden complete with large ornamental pond, covered bridge and
delightful cherry trees. |

Imperial Palace (Kyoto Gosho)
Kyoto Gosho was
the Imperial Palace of Japan for much of its history, during
the Imperial capital was in Kyoto, from the Heian Period (AD794~)
to Meiji Restoration (AD1868). Today, the grounds are open to
visitors, and the Imperial Household Agency hosts public tours
of the buildings several times a day. |
